Freelance writing for revenue is the ultimate goal for every freelance writer across the web. However, there are clients that you should avoid in your quest to write for an income.

Building a client base is important but some clients aren’t for you.

The following is a list of the types of clients that don’t pay to invest in:

Clients requesting plagiarism are freelance writing clients that you should avoid

There are clients on the web that request plagiarized content. They will forward the article or information to you and request the information be rewritten without the original author’s permission.

Plagiarized content is not an article that a client has ownership rights and is requesting rewritten. For example, they have a host of writers and some do not have English as a first language, they may request you to rewrite the content to read better.

Plagiarism is a something you don’t want on your resume as a freelance writer and if a client is requesting you to write plagiarized content, avoid this client.

Payments are not in stone are freelance writing clients that you should avoid

Clients that want to work with you for article writing or content but you don’t feel comfortable with the reimbursement terms they have set up. You have asked for a written contract for the work but they refuse is certainly a red flag.

Imagine a client that is requesting a long term writing assignment, great. However, they want to pay you after you have written 50/500 word documents. In addition, they will pay with something other than PayPal.

This may be a client that you haven’t worked with previously and you don’t feel comfortable writing 50 documents for 500 words each with the “assumption” that you may be paid. There are lots of clients that are in the marketplace that will “rip you off” for your hard work and your article content.

If it doesn’t feel quite right, go with your instincts and move on to the next job.

Clients that don’t provide detailed information for the job are freelance writing clients that you should avoid

Clients that don’t provide concrete details for a job or assignment can cause you a lot of rework. These are clients that may take days to answer your questions or inquiries.

This causes a lot of frustration for freelance writers. You may have to turn down other jobs working on this clients job and they’re haven’t provided all of the information or the correct information to complete the job.

Double or triple the time and energy are put into these jobs for the same amount of pay as a single job. These are clients you should say no to.

A deadline that is not feasible are set by freelance writing clients that you should avoid

Numerous clients have confused the role of a personal assistant with the role of a freelance writer.

If you are working with a client that has unrealistic deadlines for work to be completed, walk away from these clients. Do you have enough time to research adequately? Are you providing quality content or quantity content? Remember, you name is on this work and you want the quality to show more than anything.

Clients that have deadlines for your work in a matter of hour are not good investments for your time or work. Working with this particular client may costs you other clients.

In order to meet their unrealistic deadlines you may miss deadlines with other clients. In addition, you are not getting paid extra for work that must be completed with a couple of hours. The same reimbursement is given for content turned around within 24 hours.

Building a client base is important as a freelance writer. However, you should build a quality content base. Many of these examples are writing opportunities that may cost you income and clients in the long run or worse, no pay for the work provided.
